The Department of English has its establishment in 1988 to teach Part II English to the students of all the first year undergraduates. The introduction of the B.A course in English in 1990, the Post-Graduate course in 1999, BA English – Shift II in 2008 and M.Phil in 2017 are the important academic milestones of the department. The Department has striven to offer outcome based curriculum according to the existing demands of industry, academic and human services. Certificate course in Spoken English is introduced in 1990 to improve the communicative skills of all the first year undergraduate students. Teaching of English is introduced in 2016 as a Certificate course and Diploma course to educate the teaching skills and its techniques to the UG students. Besides, the Department has formulated Listening Lounge, Speaking Corner, Reading Club and Campus Creative Writers to enhance the LSRW skills of the students. The Department has Communication Skill Centre with 60 computers to provide digital literary knowledge as well as train the communication skill digitally. The Department constantly encourages and expands the creative imagination of the students by conducting various literary, cultural competitions through Literary Association – UTOPIA and Theatre Club. The Department enables the students to face the real life challenges and train them to serve the society with effective communication skills and interpersonal skills in whatever path they choose. The department is committed to equip the students to transfer the learned knowledge in their work place.
