Our Story
From a skill-oriented Home Science programme to an independent, well-equipped Department of Fashion Designing — building creative entrepreneurs since 2018.
The Department of Home Science – Fashion Designing has been offering a three-year undergraduate programme, B.Sc. Home Science – Fashion Designing, since 2018. This programme is skill-oriented and includes multidisciplinary courses.
The Department of Fashion Designing was separated from the Department of Home Science in the academic year 2023–24. The programme was renamed B.Sc. Fashion Designing, and M.Sc. Fashion Designing was also introduced.
Subsequently, the programme nomenclature was changed to M.Sc. Costume and Fashion Design and B.Sc. Costume and Fashion Design in the academic year 2025–26, to align with neighbouring universities.
The potential of the programme lies in placement opportunities in branding enterprises, apparel export houses, media, and fashion service industries. There is high scope for entrepreneurship in the apparel and textile industries. Laboratories such as drafting, garment construction, printing, dyeing, textiles, CAD in textile and apparel design, own boutique and boutique management, and draping are well equipped with excellent infrastructure.
Students are provided exposure through industrial visits, internships, workshops, hands-on training programmes, value-added courses, and fashion events. The department has been performing exceedingly well academically and has produced successful entrepreneurs at the Kilakarai and Ramanathapuram levels. An MoU has been signed with a reputed institution, and the department has dedicated and hardworking faculty members.
